=The New Silk Road =
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Centuries ago, the Silk Road was a critical network connecting East and West, with linkages across trade, culture, and politics. That network has now been revived — and 20 years into its rebirth, the New Silk Road presents particularly dynamic opportunities. The region that is connected to the Silk Road is powering ahead once more, driven by three major triggers: the energy transition, global supply chain disruption, and finally, geopolitical tensions and regionalization. Each of these core shifts are reshaping and generating opportunities. Flows have also expanded to include not just trade, but also capital, technology, and talent, creating a broader and deeper set of relationships.
Today, we see opportunities across private capital, digital payments, clean energy, innovation and technology, manufacturing and supply chain, and entertainment and gaming, to name just a few.
In this white paper, we identify a series of no-regret moves that companies and governments can consider today to capture these opportunities.
These include: For companies
• Pick your corridors
• Understand national priorities
• Identify opportunities holistically
• Find the right partners
• Tackle company silos
• Manage your talent For governments
• Revisit trade and investment agreements
• Leverage the strength of sovereign wealth funds (SWFs)
• Facilitate trade, investment, and technology flows
• Focus on the role of development funds
• Support the private sector
This opening paper is the first in a wider series exploring the New Silk Road’s potential impact on economies and companies.
